MC Detachment Fort Leonard Wood Military Lawyer

Built-in December 1940, Fort Leonard Wood is an army installation located in the Missouri Ozarks. The main entrance is found south of St. Robert. It was named after the former Chief of Staff, General Leonard Wood in January 1941. Its main purpose is to train infantry troops but it also became an engineer training post in 1941 after the creation of the Engineer Replacement Training Center. Italian and German POWs were also interned here during World War II.

Included in the Base Realignment and Closure process in 1984, a vast number of the US Army Engineer School’s operations were conjoined at Fort Leonard Wood which was formerly exercised at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. In 1999, Fort McClellan, Alabama was closed as a part of Base Realignment and Closure Process and the US Army Chemical Corps and Military Police Corps schools relocated to Fort Leonard Wood which was simultaneously joined by the US Army Maneuver Support Center.
