Our Army court-martial victories speak for themselves. The accused soldier and his or her desired outcome is our principal concern. The History of Camp Humphreys, Korea

Militarydefenseattorney01.18221Camp Humphreys sits near the South Korean metropolitan areas of Anjeong-ri and Pyeongtaek. Small farming villages surround the medium-sized United States Army installation. The base covers 1,120 acres that Koreans once cultivated for rice fields. Seoul is located less than 60 miles northeast of Camp Humphreys, Korea.

Operated as a minor army post after the Korean War, Camp Humphreys received official army post designation in 1962 to honor Chief Warrant Office, Benjamin K. Humphreys. The 19th Support Brigade activated at Camp Humphreys in 1974 to cement the installation’s role as a United States Army garrison. Army units that previously have reported to the 23rd Direct Support Group began reporting directly to the 19th Support Command. The Vietnam War placed more emphasis on staging deployments from Asian military bases, including Camp Humphreys. In June of 2005, the United States Army announced the closings of Camps Long and Eagle, with support activities for both camps consolidating at Camp Humphreys.

Camp Humphreys on the Move

The South Korean and United States governments reached an agreement in 2004 that moved all United States military forces to installations south of the Han River. In addition, the agreement relocated the United States Forces Korea and United Nations Command Headquarters to Camp Humphreys. The rapid growth of the base required the relocation of support and logistics personnel from other United States Army Asian military bases. Army brass expects the relocation to finish sometime towards the end of 2016. Camp Humphreys should emerge as the largest US Army garrison in Asia.
