Everett, WA
The city of Everett was named after Everett Colby, who was the son of Charles Colby, the founder of the city. Apart from having the largest marina on the west side of the US, it also has one of the most important military bases in the state. In 2002, Everett was awarded the All-America City Award.
Geography
The city of Everett is situated just 25 miles to the north of the city of Seattle. Along with some other cities, it forms the Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia CMSA. The very center of the city stretches over the Port Gardner Peninsula. The peninsula is formed by Snohomish River that lies to the east and north, and the Port Gardner bay that is to the west. According to the latest US Census, the city occupies a total of 48.49 square miles, 33.45 miles of which is land, and 15.04 miles is covered in water. The city of Everett is surrounded by Marysville, a city that lies to the north, Hat Island to the west, the city of Lynwood that is just south, and Lake Stevens that stretches to the east of the city. When it comes to weather, Everett falls under the category of Mediterranean climates, which is characterized by warm summers and relatively mild winters.
History
The original inhabitants of the area where now lies the city of Everett, surrendered the territory to the United States in 1855. This can clearly be seen from the Treaty of Point Elliott. The first European settlement was built in 1861, when Dennis Brigham took a piece of the land to build a cabin. In 1890, a man named Hewitt began the process of acquisition of land that will later be known as the Everett Land Company. He formed a syndicate with Charles Colby and they named the town that grew around their factories the city of Everett. Everett was the site of an unfortunate event that happened in 1916 and later became known as the Everett Massacre. The incident occurred during the confrontation of the members of the Industrial Workers of the World with the mob that was led by the Sheriff.
Industry
Most of the industry of the city of Everett is closely related to lumber trade. According to the data that was gathered in 2006, the majority of the inhabitants work in the fields of aerospace, technology and service-based industries. Among the top employers in the area, there are Boeing, State of Washington, Frontier Communications Northwest and the Naval Station Everett. Probably the most famous is Boeing, a company that is in the business of designing, manufacturing and selling satellites, airplanes and rockets.

The Naval Station Everett employs around 6,000 people, both sailors and civilians. It is only 25 miles away from Seattle, and is surrounded by Arlington and Marysville.
