Fort George G. Meade is a United States Military installation located in Maryland. It is where the United States Army Field Band, the Defense Information School and the United States Cyber Command Headquarters, the National Security Agency, the Defense Courier Service and the Defense Information Systems Agency are found.
The place was named after George G. Meade, who was a known general during the US Civil War who was a commander of the Army of the Potomac. Support facilities such as schools, housing and the offices of the Military Intelligence Civilian Excepted Career Program (MICECP) reside on the fort’s smaller census-designated place (CDP).
On 1917, the post was opened with the name of “Camp Admiral” replacing the name “Camp Annapolis Junction”. It was later renamed as Camp Meade Cantonment and Field Signal School on 1918 and Camp Benning on 1919 and formed Camp Colt and Tobyhanna schools during World War I. In the 1950’s, it became the National Security Agency headquarters then later naming it after the great general, George G. Meade.
