Chievres Air Base Belgium – Military History

The Chievres Air Base is located in Hainaut, Belgium. This United States Air Force-operated base is one nautical mile east of the town of Chièvres. The base is only twelve miles from the Supreme Headquarters of Allied Powers Europe (SHACE). This article provides information about the base and its surroundings. There is also a map and a brief description of the base. The airbase is a great place to work or visit if you are a soldier.

The airbase has a colorful history, dating back to World War II. The 80th Area Support Group was first established in 1968 and later renamed the “US” group. This group provided logistical support to NATO. This was the last time Chievres Air Base Belgium was open to the general public. Therefore, its name was changed from “Shaped Area” to the “US” group.

US Army Garrison Benelux is located in Chievres, Belgium. The headquarters of USAG Benelux is located in Brussels. It has a total of five aircraft stationed at the base. In addition, a small number of airplanes and military personnel live at this base, and the United States Army Garrison in Belgium provides logistical support to the NATO forces. The United States Army re-established Chievres in 1939 and later converted it to a diversion airfield.

The new Air Base in Belgium is a good place to stay for families. The airbase is only 12 miles from Casteau and is short of SHAPE. During World War II, the Nazis heavily bombed Chievres Air Base 30 times. But the Germans rebuilt it and gave it a familiar name to many people. Then, during the Cold War, the American military reclaimed the airfield and made it an enduring community.

The United States Air Force operates a base in Belgium that is 1.2 miles south of Chievres. It also hosts a few NATO airplanes. The base also serves as a NATO staging area. It is the location of the 86th Airlift Wing. During World War II, the 424th Air Base Squadron supported the headquarters of the Allied Powers in Europe.

The 1st Combat Aviation Brigade arrived in Belgium via Fort Riley, Kansas. Today, the unit is based at Chievres Air Base. The mission of the Air Force is in support of US Army Europe. The airbase hosts many international military organizations and military aircraft. In addition, several other units operate from Chievres, including the US Army HQ. Its personnel, equipment, and vehicles are assigned to the various missions.

The United States Air Force 309th Airlift Squadron is the only airbase in the Army. The base’s mission is to provide logistical support for SHAPE and NATO. The United States Air Force 424th Air Base Squadron is part of the SHAPE and is Belgium’s only operational flying unit. The 86th Operations Group supports this organization at Ramstein. It is the largest NATO component of the US Armed Force.

The newest addition to the Chievres Air Base is a $15 million commissary. This new facility will feature a lounge and a breakfast area. The existing building will be repurposed as a car wash, as well. The commissary will be remodeled into a carwash. All of these projects are essential to the airfield’s future. The proposed facility will also include a car wash and laundry facilities.

The 409th Air Expeditionary Group was reassigned to the 7108th Tactical Wing after the Berlin Crisis and the 86th Air Division during the Vietnam War. These two squadrons were deployed during the Vietnam War, and the fourteenth Air Forces were redirected to the United States by the end of the War. The USF has a large presence in Belgium, and it is an important part of NATO.

The Ground Launch Cruise Missile program was initially based in Belgium, but later, the USAF moved the headquarters to Luxembourg and Belgium. The ground-launch cruise missile program was then reduced to six locations in Europe. While the United States Air Forces were headquartered in Belgium, the Air Forces in Europe were deployed in the 1970s. Nevertheless, there were still a few cases of accidents. The ground-launched cruise missile was still in use during the War. Belgium Military Air Force Bases

In 1918, the Belgian government built its first airbase in Belgium. Chievres Air Base is the largest military installation in Belgium. In the 1930s, the government built an airbase in Chievres, a village near Antwerp. In 1940, the Germans invaded Belgium, which led to the construction of the base. The Belgian military aviation is headquartered in the Chievres Air Base. In the 1930s, the government decided to transfer four F-16s from Kleine Brogel to Chievres.

The Belgian military aviation service was first established in 1909. It flew the Breguet 19 during the interwar years and is currently one of its oldest air forces. In January 2002, the Belgian authorities handed over the airfield to the US Army, where it is now known as Chievres AB. In 2007, the base received a NATO SHAPE Support Group, supporting SHAPE and providing logistical support.

In March 2011, the F-16 program was revived, and six F-16s were transferred to Araxos in Greece for a joint exercise. These aircraft were used to monitor the skies of Latvia and Estonia, while in June, six F-16 fighters from Kleine Brogel were transferred to Siauliai for three months. In March, a similar situation was brewing in the Baltics: the Belgians now operate the F-35 Lightning II in their air force.

The US Air Force has a history of supporting NATO missions. The air force’s first mission was to support the US Army in the Cold War. However, the Belgian military has since disbanded the units and transferred them to other countries. In addition to f-16 fighter-bombers, the Belgian Air Force has a fleet of unarmed patrol ships. Nevertheless, the US has had a strong presence in the area since the Cold War.

The Belgian Air Force has had many significant victories in wars. For example, it was the only country to send Harvard aircraft to the Democratic Republic of the Congo during the Cold War. In January 1991, Belgium sent four F-16s to Egypt and two to Libya to aid the French and Italian forces. A new version of the F-16, the CF-35, is now operational in all Belgian air forces.
